A home to many Cows and Bulls, Govardhan Ecovillage nurtures and protects them as it believes that they deserve the same care as we humans do, for their depiction of being sacred to us.

There are many hidden facts about Cows that need to be known and what better place than Govardhan Ecovillage. A home to several cows, bulls and their calves, we at the Ecovillage believe in protecting, honouring and loving cows, especially as they are dear to Lord Krishna and are a vital part of agriculture and the economy.

Cow Festivals at Govardhan Ecovillage

We at Govardhan Ecovillage treat Cows as our Mothers and thus celebrate their existence through various events. Gopastami, Govardhan Puja and Cow & Man Retreat were some of the festivals organized at the Ecovillage recently.


On the auspicious day of Gopastami, a cow and a calf were worshipped and after the arati, green grass and bananas were fed to the cows by the guests. Govardhan Puja During Govardhan Puja, according to the rituals, the cows were decorated, worshipped and fed sumptuously. The festival was attended by more than 3000 people who circumambulated the cows amidst loud kirtan. Later, everyone offered arati, fed bananas and green grass to the cows.

Cow & Man Retreat

A unique one-day retreat ‘Cow & Man’ was organized at the Ecovillage recently to experience the joy of serving Mother Cow. Several guests had a first-hand experience of knowing about the nature and lifestyle of cows and doing Goseva. They brushed the cows, made cow dung patties, fed grass and performed Go arati at the end. To conclude, there was also an enlivening talk on Cows by HG Sanat Kumar Prabhu.

Govardhan Goshala was started in the year 2003 at Govardhan Ecovillage. Beginning with only 9 cows & bulls, the number today has increased to 104 and is expected to reach 150 in next few years.
One of the unique features at Govardhan Goshala is the personal attention and care given, with separate special zones allocated to Cows, Bulls,
Calves and Milking Cows. With personal care given prime importance, Govardhan Goshala provides excellent facilities for Cows and Bulls, setting world-class standards.
